2017:

SEPTEMBER: A juvenile/ 1st winter was present at Oldbury Pil, Oldbury-on-Severn around lunchtime on the 21st; Two juvenile/ 1st winters was found on Pilning Wetland on the 23rd; Two juvenile/ 1st winters were seen on the 24th, one at Oldbury Pill, Oldbury-on-Severn and one on Pilning Wetland; A juvenile/ 1st winter on Pilning Wetland from the 25th - 30th with two present on the 27th & 29th. OCTOBER:  A juvenile 1st winter at Oldbury Pill, Oldbury-on-Severn on the 2nd; A juvenile/ 1st winter on Pilning Wetland on the 1st - 31st with two on the 4th - 5th. NOVEMBER: A juvenile/ 1st winter on Pilning Wetland on the 1st - 5th.

 

2016:

AUGUST: One was both seen and heard briefly on Northwick Warth in the evening on the 31st. SEPTEMBER: Two juvenile/ 1st winter birds were present on Pilning Wetland until dusk on the 1st with (probably) the same individuals reappearing there on the 5th; A juvenile/ 1st winter was seen in the New Passage. Northwick Warth/ Pilning Wetlands area on the 12th and 14th; One was seen on Pilning Wetland on the 30th. OCTOBER: One was on show at New Passage on the 5th; One was present in the Northwick Warth/ Pilning Wetland area on the 17th. NOVEMBER: One was present on the shore at New Passage on the 15th.

 

2015:

One was present at Thornbury Yacht Club around Pillhead Gout in the morning on April 22nd; One was reported in the New Passage/ Northwick Warth area on October 6th.

2014:

A summer adult photographed on Pilning Wetland around 12:30 on July 19th. It stayed long enough to get some decent photo's and a short video clip before flying high south-west during a break in the rain; An adult on The Pill, Northwick Warth in the evening on July 31st; A Juvenile/ 1st winter on Pilning Wetland, New Passage on September 14th.

 

2013:

A juvenile at Shepperdine just after high tide on August 28th around 14:00, then flew south west. One on Northwick Warth on November 23rd.

 

2012:

One over Aust Warth on August 8th where it had been flushed by anglers. It was last noted heading south-west towards New Passage.

 

2011:

One from New Passage on August 16th.

 

2010:

One near The Windbound at Shepperdine on February 27th; One at New Passage, with a further two at Severn Beach on September 5th; One at New Passage on Northwick Warth on September 30th; One flew from Thornbury Sailing Club to Lagoon III at Oldbury Power Station on October 2nd.

 

2009:

One on Lagoon I at Oldbury Power Station on September 16th; One on October 31st at New Passage.

 

2008:

On the 9th April two just north of Oldbury Power Station near Shepperdine; One at Oldbury Power Station on August 22nd; One on Northwick Warth on August 31st; At Oldbury Power Station one from October 18th - 28th on Lagoon I and again from November 3rd - 8th; The same or another was present on Lagoon I at Oldbury Power Station on December 9th.

 

2007:

One heard and seen over Severn Beach on April 16th; One on Northwick Warth on September 29th - 30th; One at Littleton from September 29th to October 3rd; One at New Passage on October 1st still present on October 4th; On the 23rd October one at Shepperdine the moved to Lagoon I at Oldbury Power Station in the evening. It the commuted between Lagoon I and III on October 27th - 28th; One at Aust Warth on October 27th but moved to New Passage on October 28th; One at New Passage on November 12th.

 

2006:

One on Northwick Warth on October 13th; At Oldbury Power Station individuals on January 17th at Shepperdine, 21st - 31st October on Lagoon I and again from November 11th - 23rd at various locations including Lagoon I and III and Shepperdine.

 

2004:

One in flight past Northwick Warth on July 6th.

 

2003:

One on February 11th at New Passage; One on August 25th at Severn Beach; One on Northwick Warth on November 22nd.

 

2002:

In the Severn Beach/ New Passage area individuals on November 3rd & 10th and in December on the 14th and 21st.

 

2000:

All records this year come from Oldbury Power Station: Single birds on August 25th & 28th, September 16th and December 16th.

 

1999:

All records this year come from Oldbury Power Station: A summer plumaged adult on April 28th and juveniles on August 26th - 27th and September 8th.

 

1998:

All records this year come from Oldbury Power Station: Two on July 3rd and one on September 5th - 6th.

 

1997:

All records this year come from Oldbury Power Station: Single birds on September 14th, October 26th, November 2nd and 9th.

 

1995:

One at Oldbury Power Station on July 26th and five there on August 13th.

 

1994:

One at Oldbury Power Station on July 10th and possible refers to the same individual on August 9th & 24th & September 17th - 18th; One at New Passage on October 30th.

 

1993:

All records this year come from Oldbury Power Station: Single birds on July 23rd, August 16th, between September 11th - 15th with two on October 16th.

 

1992:

One from Northwick Warth on August 31st; Two on Northwick Warth on September 15th.

 

1991:

One on October 31st at Oldbury Power Station.

 

1990:

One at Oldbury Power Station on April 24th; One at Oldbury Power Station on August 21st; One at Oldbury Power Station on September 6th - 9th.

 

1988:

One at Severn Beach on September 9th.

 

1987:

One at New Passage on September 11th; One at New Passage on September 20th - 24th.

 

1985:

One at Aust Warth on August 20th.

 

1984:

Three in January at Oldbury Power Station and one at the same site in February; Up to four throughout September and up to the 12th October at Oldbury Power Station.

 

1983:

Three at Oldbury Power Station throughout August; One at Oldbury Power Station on December 30th.

 

1982:

One at Severn Beach on September 9th.

 

1981:

One on Northwick Warth on September 6th.

 

1980:

One in full breeding plumage on May 30th at Oldbury Power Station.

 

1978:

One on Northwick Warth on September 3rd.

 

1976:

One at New Passage on August 17th.

 

1957:

Two in flight at Severn Beach on September 15th.

 

1955:

One on a small pond at Dyrham Park on September 9th - 16th and again on September 23rd.

 

1954:

Two in flight and on the mud banks on the R. Severn at Shepperdine on November 17th. This is the first documented reference to this species in S. Gloucestershire.
