2018:

NOVEMBER: A party of six flew upriver from Pilning Wetland Reserve towards Aust early morning on the 18th.

 

2016:

NOVEMBER: An adult was present at high tide at Thornbury Yacht Club, Oldbury on the 8th; Two were reported in flight upriver at Oldbury Power Station on the morning of the 13th; Two adults were seen briefly in flight over Cake Pill, Aust around 16:00 on the 25th before moving out across the estuary; Five, two adults and three juveniles, flew very low north past Littleton Warth calling at 09:30 on the 26th.

 

2014:

Three at Pillhead Gout at 11:45 just south-west of Thornbury Yacht Club, Oldbury on December 2nd; Two were noted in flight upriver past Aust Warth in the afternoon on December 28th; Five, three adults and two immature birds were present at Severn Beach around 16:00 on December 30th.

 

2013:

Seven paid a flying visit to Northwick Warth on October 20th before circling Pilning Wetland and heading south-east; Four were logged flying northeast over Oldbury Power Station on November 17th; Seven were seen on Northwick Warth on November 23rd six of which were seen at Oldbury Power Station briefly on November 24th.

 

2011:

Two were seen in flight over Severn Beach and another twenty-six probably this species flew up river past Aust Warth on January 28th; Four adults were seen in flight north east over Northwick Warth on November 20th.

 

2010:

At Oldbury Power Station three were seen in flight north west across the river in the evening on November 30th and six flew over the road at the entrance at 10:15, heading north east on December 18th. On Severnside - six flew north east over the sheep fields on Northwick Warth at 10:00 on December 18th, five were noted at Aust Warth on December 26th and two seen flying down river past Northwick Warth on December 31st; An immature was seen in flight north west over Leap Valley, Downend on December 18th.

 

2009:

On Severnside - three were seen flying south over Severn Beach on November 14th and two noted flying north east over Aust Warth on December 18th; At least seventeen were counted in flight up river past Oldbury Power Station on December 24th.

 

2008:

A family party of five, two adults & three juveniles, flew low overhead and upriver at Oldbury Power Station, calling at 14:50 on  December 13th; Four dropped onto Northwick Warth briefly before being flushed and heading north on December 27th.

 

2007:

Five were seen in flight south over Aust Village on January 4th.

 

2005:

Two were reported at Oldbury Power Station on November 17th.

 

2004:

On Severnside - Ten, including seven adults were seen flying north east past Northwick Warth on January 4th, one was seen at Severn Beach on November 7th, two on Northwick Warth on December 26th; Eight were noted at Leap Valley, Downend on January 3rd; At Thornbury birds were heard overhead at 21:15 on February 26th; At Oldbury Power Station - four circled around Lagoon It  then flew low upriver on January 3rd, a juvenile was reported on February 16th.

 

2003:

Four adults were reported on the estuary at Oldbury Power Station on December 5th.

 

2002:

Four flew west over Northwick Warth on January 5th; Seven were counted over Oldbury Power Station on December 18th.

 

2001:

Eight, including four juveniles were noted north east past Northwick Warth on December 15th, subsequently past Oldbury Power Station; Ten were logged from Northwick Warth on December 16th (subsequently seen at Oldbury Power Station) with a further eleven adults north past Northwick Warth on the 22nd.

 

2000:

On Severnside - two were seen on Northwick Warth on January 23rd; Seven at New Passage on December 25th; Two south west over New Passage on December 31st; At Oldbury Power Station - one was noted on January 23rd; Two in flight north west on November 19th; Three were noted north east on December 27th; Two noted on December 31st.

 

1998:

One was seen at Oldbury Power Station on January 9th with a further bird here on December 25th.

 

1997:

Six were seen in flight north east past New Passage on January 1st; Nine were present at Oldbury Power Station on December 21st.

 

1996:

Six were seen in flight north east past Littleton Warth on February 1st; One was heard overhead at Thornbury at 20:00 on March 28th; On Severnside seven were seen in flight south on December 15th; Two at Oldbury Power Station on the 22nd and 27th.

 

1994:

One was seen at Oldbury Power Station on February 13th.

 

1993:

On Northwick Warth - three birds present in 1992 remained, rising to ten on January 12th and on March 8th a flock of thirty-five were logged in flight heading north.

 

1992:

One flew north east past Oldbury Power Station on December 23rd; On Northwick Warth, one seen sporting a neck collar was joined by two more from the 30th and remained into 1993. The neck collared bird was a female that had been ringed at Kotterweg, Zuid-Flevoland in the Netherlands on February 7th 1992.

 

1991:

Three including a 1st winter flew south past Oldbury Power Station on November 23rd.

 

1990:

Seven including five 1st winters were seen on Northwick Warth on January 14th; At Oldbury Power Station fourteen including two 1st winters flew up river on November 4th.

 

1989:

One was seen at Hallen on January 1st; A juvenile was seen somewhere on Severnside on November 16th.

 

1988:

On Northwick Warth - two were seen on October 30th and five were reported on December 10th; Two were noted at Tortworth Court on December 11th.

 

1987:

Four flew north east past Severn Beach on December 7th.

1985:

At Northwick Warth - eighteen were counted flying over north east on January 7th, five were present on October 31st; Four were seen in flight over Severn Beach on November 19th.

 

1984:

Two were seen at Oldbury Power Station on February 5th; On Severnside - No specific location - five flew south on January 2nd, two on February 13th with a further six on the 29th. In December ten flew up river on the 27th with another two on the 28th.

 

1983:

In February - fourteen were seen on the river at Oldbury on the 2nd and two were noted off Northwick Warth on 26th; Three were reported at Tortworth Court sometime in November; Four were seen at Oldbury Power Station on November 4th; Three were logged in flight over Elberton on December 11th; On Severnside - No specific location - sixteen were counted on November 11th, two on December 2nd - 4th and four on December 27th.

 

1982:

Often seen on usually on Northwick Warth between January 15th and March 14th where up to nineteen were noted; Three in flight south over Pilning on November 23rd.

 

1981:

On Northwick Warth - eight were seen on November 8th. In December five present on the 13th, fourteen on the 24th and six on the 27th.

 

1980:

Seven were seen in the New Passage/ Northwick Warth area on November 30th with twelve present there on December 29th.

 

1979:

In January two were present on Northwick Warth on the 1st and one was seen at Severn Beach on the 6th; In October ten were seen in flight at New Passage on the 27th, with seven there on the 28th; Three were reported between November and December from Littleton Warth.

 

1977:

On Northwick Warth - twenty-one were seen in flight down river on January 24th with six up river there on February 6th.

 

1976:

On Northwick Warth - two were seen on October 30th, three were present on November 21st and one was noted on December 22nd.

 

1975:

On Northwick Warth - thirteen were counted on March 15th - 16th.

 

1974:

One was seen at Oldbury-on-Severn on November 17th.

 

1973:

Three were seen at Shepperdine on November 9th; Ten were noted between Severn Beach and Avonmouth on December 1st.

 

1972:

Six were seen in flight up river at Aust on January 30th.

 

1971:

Seven were noted at Severn Beach on March 7th; Eight were seen feeding in cereal fields at Aust on December 12th.

 

1970:

One was reported from Severn Beach on March 8th. This is the first documented reference to this species in S. Gloucestershire.
