MAY 2019

 

4th: The first Odonata news of the year in the form of Large Red Damselfly with good numbers seen at Bradley Stoke Brook. (Vic Savery) 5th: Saw a male Large Red Damselfly in Thornbury near the medieval fish ponds. (Louise Bailey) 7th: The first Common Blue Damselfly of the year was seen on the wing in the Shire Valley, Marshfield. (TBOSG)

21st: A Common Blue Damselfly was seen along the brook at Bradley Stoke and at least two Broad-bodied Chasers were noted at Three Brookes LNR. 23rd: At least one Beautiful Demoiselle on the wing at Bradley Stoke. (Vic Savery)

28th: Two new additions to the S. Glos year list. White-legged Damselfly and Scarce Chaser were both seen along the Avon Valley Walkway around Holm Mead one kilometre east of the Lock Keeper between Willsbridge and Keynsham. (Ben Ofield)

JUNE 2019

 

1st: Three new for the year, Four-spotted Chaser, Emperor and Black-tailed Skimmer all from Western Distribution Park, Severn Beach. (Lisa Presland) 3rd: New for the year, a Blue-tailed Damselfly was spotted at the Western Distribution Park, Severn Beach. (Rob Emery)

5th: A Large Red Damselfly hatching from a garden pond in Yate on the 5th. (Mark Coller) 17th: An Emperor was the highlight at Orchard Pools, Severn Beach this morning. (Rob Emery) 18th: A male Emperor at Western Distribution Pools, Severn Beach plus at least three Four-spotted Chasers and Blue-tailed Damselflies. (Rob Emery) 19th: An Azure Damselfly, the first of the year, was noted on Chipping Sodbury Common. (Mark Coller) 26th: The first Common Darter of the year was logged on Chipping Sodbury Common. JULY 2019

 

2nd: Four Black tailed-tailed Skimmer, Emperor Dragonfly, Blue-tailed and Common Blue Damselflies were all in flight at Western Distribution pools, Severn Beach today. (Rob Emery) 7th: Small Red-eyed Damselflies were seen at Western Distribution Park, Severn Beach today as well as many Black-tailed Skimmers. (Vic Savery)

10th: A Scarce Blue-tailed Damselfly was seen in Kingsgate Park, Yate this morning along with Blue-tailed Damselfly (all three forms), Common Blue, at least 100 Small Red-eyed Damselflies, three Emperor Dragonfly and Black-tailed Skimmer. (Mark Coller) 13th: A Southern Hawker was seen in the evening at Willsbridge Mill. (Paul Francis) 15th:Three Emperor, four Black-tailed Skimmer, four Common Darter and a few Blue-tailed Damselflies were noted around Orchard Pools, Severn Beach. (Rob Emery) 25th: A very hot afternoon visit to Western Distribution Pools, Severn Beach; at least ten Small Red-eyed damselflies, Emperor, Four spotted Chaser, Black-tailed Skimmer and several Common Darter. (Rob Emery) 26th: Two Migrant Hawkers were seen at Willsbridge Mill in the evening. (Paul Francis) 31st: A couple of Emperor, several Common Darter, good numbers of Common Blue Damselfly and several Beautiful Demoiselle from the Shire Valley, Marshfield today. (Nigel Warren)

AUGUST 2019

 

1st: This year's first Ruddy Darter was seen at Kingsgate Park, Yate along with a few Small Red-eyed Damselflies and an Emperor. (Mark Coller) 4th: Both Common and Ruddy Darters, Emperors, a single Black-tailed Skimmer and at least ten Blue-tailed Damselflies were watched at a very cloudy but warm Orchard Pools, Severn Beach today. (Rob Emery) 7th: A Black-tailed Skimmer was seen at Pilning Wetland Reserve this afternoon. (TBOSG) 13th: Several Emperor, Common Darter and Migrant Hawker in the Shire Valley, Marshfield this afternoon. (TBOSG) 23rd: The first Brown Hawker of the year was seen at Kingsgate Park, Yate. (Mark Coller) 26th: In the Shire Valley at Marshfield; plenty of Common Darter, several Emperors, Migrant Hawker and at least one Brown Hawker. (TBOSG) 31st A Southern Hawker was noted at Oldbury Power Station. (Pete Coslett)
