TBOSG     Diver Spp - Gavia spp

 

 

Four of the five 'diver' species to have occurred in the UK have been seen in S. Gloucestershire, Red-throated, Black-throated, Pacific and Great Northern (all since 1960) with Red-throated Diver appearing the most regularly. Divers of any kind are very scarce if not rare in S. Glos and less than thirty have been positively identified. The unidentified birds listed below make up nearly a third of Diver occurrences.

   

Earliest: October 30th 2000 off Aust Warth.

Latest: May 18th 2003 off Severn Beach.

Highest Count: One on all dates.

   

There have been ten unidentified Divers reported from S. Gloucestershire, they are;

   

2007: (1)

At Severn Beach a probable Red-throated Diver was seen at 09:00 on December 9th, it flew along the sea wall and over the Second Severn Crossing.

   

2006: (1)

A probable Red-throated Diver flew south-west past Severn Beach on May 11th.

   

2003: (3)

On May 1st one was seen twice in flight off Severn Beach; One was reported on May 18th off Severn Beach; One was seen three times in flight on November 14th off Severn Beach.

   

2000: (1)

One was found on October 30th on the R. Severn off Aust Warth.

   

1999: (1)

On November 5th one was seen on the R. Severn off Severn Beach.

   

1997: (1)

One was seen on May 4th on the R. Severn May off Severn Beach.

   

1996: (1)

On November 7th one was observed on the R. Severn off Severn Beach.

   

1990: (2)

On February 20th two were noted on the R. Severn off New Passage.
