SEVERN BEACH: JULY: One was seen over high tide on the 3rd, 12th and 30th with at least two on the 15th - 16th. AUGUST: A corpse was found on seawall near Shaft Beach, Severn Beach on the 4th; One was seen well close to shore from Severn Beach early evening on the 12th. NOVEMBER: Two were noted from Severn Beach over high tide on the 19th.

 

2022

At least one was seen from Severn Beach on November 1st; At least one on the morning and afternoon tides from Severn Beach on November 23rd.

 

2021

Two were seen together during a stormy day from Severn Beach mid-afternoon on May 21st.

 

2020

MAY: One or two from Severn Beach by mid-day with up to three there in the evening on the 23rd. Two from Severn Beach over the high tide period on the 24th. JUNE: Two from Severn Beach over the high tide period on the 28th and at least five on the 29th. JULY: Two from Severn Beach over the high tide period on the 5th. AUGUST: One from Severn Beach mid-morning on the 21st, at least two present there on the 22nd, at least three reported on the 23rd and one lingering on the 25th.

 

2019

JUNE: The after effects of Storm Miguel had one lingering for several hours in the estuary from Severn Beach on the 8th. AUGUST: At least three over high tide from Severn Beach on the 10th with one close inshore at the same site on the 11th. DECEMBER: One almost certainly this species from Oldbury Power Station on the 10th.

 

2018

JUNE: One seen heading out of 'Burger Bar Bay', Severn Beach early on the 14th and 18th; One from Severn Beach on September 10th.

 

2017

JUNE: One was seen from Severn Beach on the 6th; An adult viewed from Severn Beach on the evening tide on the 23rd. AUGUST: At least two, possibly three, were logged on the evening high tide at Severn Beach on the 3rd; Two from Severn Beach by 18:30 on the 19th. SEPTEMBER: One was seen from Severn Beach on the 11th.

 

2016

FEBRUARY: One was seen heading out onto the estuary then down river from Oldbury Power Station in the afternoon on the 8th. AUGUST: Four were logged throughout the day on the 4th from Severn Beach, one of which was taken into care but sadly succumbed; One from Severn Beach on the 20th at 18:55 and 19:22; Up to six birds noted throughout the day on the 21st from Severn Beach with at least two still on the 22nd.

 

2015

JUNE: At least two birds were seen from the sea wall at Severn Beach from late afternoon into the evening on the 2nd.

 

2014

MAY: One was seen distantly (approx 200 metres) off Severn Beach at 18:20 on the 10th; One flew south-west past Severn Beach at 16:25 on the 11th; One in the evening from Severn Beach on the 12th. AUGUST: A moulting adult was seen well in Burger Bar Bay, Severn Beach on the 11th; At least four were reported from the sea walls at Severn Beach on the 12th.

 

2013

MAY: One was reported off Severn Beach at 12:25 on the 12th. JUNE: One heading down river from Severn Beach at 07:20 on the 22nd. OCTOBER: One was seen from Severn Beach on the 28th.

 

2012

JUNE: At least ten were seen off Severn Beach on the 8th; At least 30 were present off Severn Beach on the 9th; One lingering off 'The Pipes' at Severn Beach on the 10th; One was present off Severn Beach on the 16th with two, possibly as many as four there on the 17th; One possibly two were present on the morning and evening tides off Severn Beach on the 23rd.

 

2011

MAY: One on the 22nd & 26th off Severn Beach. JULY: One off Severn Beach in flight down river at around 19:30 on the 17th. SEPTEMBER: One off Severn Beach at 14:00 on the 7th.

 

2009

NOVEMBER: One off Severn Beach on the 18th around 10:00.

 

2008

JUNE: One off Severn Beach on the 22nd at 19:00; At least two off Severn Beach at 13:00 on the 28th. AUGUST: At least three birds lingering off Severn Beach on the 10th; One off Severn Beach on the 12th; At least four late afternoon off Severn Beach on the 13th with one picked up moribund & taken into care, another was picked up dead at Awkley Flood Pools beside the M4/ M48 junction; Up to four off Severn Beach on the 19th, three in the morning, one in the evening; One off Severn Beach at 10:35 on the 20th.

 

2007

JULY: One off Severn Beach in the morning of the 4th with two there in the evening; At least two off Severn Beach close inshore in the morning on the 5th; Around six off Severn Beach by 10:20 on the 6th with five lingering until at least 18:00; At least two lingering off Severn Beach in the morning on the 7th with one still present at 14:15. DECEMBER: One off Severn Beach at 14:10 on the 29th.

 

2006

MAY: At least two possibly three after strong overnight winds off Severn Beach on the 19th; At least one flew past Severn Beach on the 20th; Three off Severn Beach at around 07:00 with three more on the evening tide on the 24th; One on the evening tide off Severn Beach on the 26th. JUNE: One flying around the sea defences at Severn Beach at 19:55 on the 22nd. JULY: Two watched off Severn Beach on the 9th. DECEMBER: Two reported off Severn Beach on the 7th around 14:00.

Off Severn Beach, one was seen on September 13th; Five were present on September 14th.

One was showing well on May 20th off Severn Beach; One was reported on July 17th off Severn Beach.

One was seen on January 28th off Severn Beach; A corpse was found at Oldbury Power Station on February 17th; Up to six were seen on May 25th off Severn Beach; One was noted on May 29th off Severn Beach; Two were seen on June 10th off Severn Beach; One was seen on October 27th off Severn Beach.

Two were seen off Severn Beach on July 11th.

Two were seen on June 21st off Severn Beach, one at 08:40 and one at 09:10. 1996 Two on August 25th off Severn Beach, dropped to one lingering into August 26th; One was watched on November 3rd off Severn Beach; Two were seen on November 6th off Severn Beach.

One on June 18th was seen off Severn Beach; One on June 21st was watched off Severn Beach.

 

1990

One was seen on July 1st off New Passage; One was seen on July 8th off New Passage; One was seen on August 16th off New Passage; One was seen on September 9th at Oldbury Power Station over Lagoon II.

A count of four were noted on October 29th off New Passage; One was seen on December 17th off Severn Beach.

One was noted on February 2nd at Severn Beach; One was seen on July 30th off Severn Beach; One was seen on September 24th off Severn Beach.

One was seen on June 23rd off New Passage; One on August 3rd off New Passage; One on September 16th off New Passage.

 

1983

On September 3rd seven were noted off New Passage; Twelve, were seen off New Passage September 4th and on September 5th five were still available; On October 16th there were three, four on the 17th, one on the 18th and one on the 19th off New Passage.

 

1982

One flew up stream off Severn Beach in a south-westerly gale on November 19th.

 

1978

One probably this species was reported off New Passage on September 10th; One was found close inshore on September 16th off Severn Beach; One was seen on September 30th off New Passage.

 

1938

The partial remains of one were found near Severn Beach on October 16th.

 

1903

A single bird was found on November 15th near Alveston.

 

1824

One was identified on October 31st near Alveston following the violent gale of All Hallows Eve.
