A hundred and forty-nine bird days were
logged this year from six sites; Aust Warth
(116), Northwick Warth/ Pilning Wetland
Reserve area (17), Oldbury Power Station
(11), Severn Beach and Marshfield (2) and
Wick (1). The best months were January (66)
and February (63). LATEST: One from Severn
Beach on May 8th. EARLIEST: One along
Northwick Warth on October 23rd. HIGHEST
COUNT: Six birds were reported from the
Severnside shore between Northwick/ Aust
Warth on January 4th.
2018
A hundred and eighty-one bird days were
logged this year from four sites; Aust/ New
Passage/ Northwick/ Sever Beach (165)
Oldbury Power Station/ Shepperdine (12),
Marshfield (3) and Inglestone Common (1).
The best months were March (60) and January
(54). LATEST: One on Northwick Warth on May
31st. EARLIEST: One disturbed briefly from
Aust Warth late morning on October 27th.
HIGHEST COUNT: Seven from Aust Warth on
March 4th.
2017
Eighty-two bird days were logged this year
from four sites; Aust Warth (69), Severnside
and Oldbury Power Station (6) and Marshfield
(1). The best month was April (26). LATEST:
One seen on Northwick Warth on May 9th.
EARLIEST: One was seen from the A46 near
Marshfield on October 28th. HIGHEST COUNT:
Four were reported from Aust Warth late
afternoon on March 15th before flying
towards Northwick Warth and four were seen
at the same site on March 22nd and April 1st
- 2nd.
2016
Seventy bird days were logged this year from
seven sites; Oldbury Power Station (33),
Aust Warth (21), Severn Beach (9), Chipping
Sodbury (6) and single birds from Cromhall/
Wickwar, Iron Acton and Filton Airfield. The
best month was April (29). LATEST: One was
noted from Aust Warth on June 5th. EARLIEST:
One was seen at Aust Warth at 20:00 on
August 28th. HIGHEST COUNT: Three were seen
in 'The Pipes' area south of Severn Beach on
April 19th. Three were seen hunting over the
Lagoons at Oldbury Power Station on April
27th and 29th.
2015
Forty-six bird days were recorded this year
from six sites; Aust Warth (32), Severn
Beach (6), OPS (5) and single birds from
Pilning Wetland, Yate and Kingswood. The
best months were November and December with
ten bird days a piece. EARLIEST: One was
reported from Aust Warth at 19:30 on
September 22nd. LATEST: One was seen on Aust
Warth on April 20th. HIGHEST COUNT: Two in
January and November.
2014
Forty-one bird days were recorded this year
from five sites; Aust Warth (30), Severn
Beach (4), Northwick Warth (3) with OPS and
Marshfield (2). The best month was February
(14). EARLIEST: One flew past Oldbury Power
Station on October 16th. LATEST: One was
watched in the morning on March 13th.
HIGHEST COUNT: Five were flushed by the
rising tide from Aust Warth on February 1st.
2013
A respectable 103 bird days were recorded
this year from just three locations; Aust
Warth (90), Northwick Warth (7) and
Marshfield (6). The best month was April
(24). EARLIEST: One was seen on Aust Warth
on October 23rd. LATEST: One was still
present on Aust Warth on May 20th. HIGHEST
COUNT: Three were noted at Aust Warth on
January 24th, February 15th, March 23rd,
April 30th.
2012
A massive 354 bird days were logged this
year from six sites; Aust Warth (213),
Marshfield (120), Severn Beach (8), OPS (7),
Northwick Warth (5) and Littleton Warth (1).
The best month was March (95). EARLIEST: One
was seen over Aust Warth at 16:00 on
September 16th. LATEST: One was reported by
dog walkers on the salt marsh south of
Severn Beach on June 19th. HIGHEST COUNT: An
unconfirmed report of up to fifteen in the
Marshfield area on January 28th.
2011
138 bird days were recorded this year from
four locations; Aust Warth (97), Marshfield
(33), OPS (6) and Severn Beach (2). The best
month was November (58). EARLIEST: One was
noted in the morning at Aust Warth on August
3rd. LATEST: One was flushed from the
shingle beach at Severn Beach on May1st.
HIGHEST COUNT: At least seven were seen from
Shirehill Lane at Marshfield on November
27th.
2010
Fifty-one bird days were logged this year
from just three locations; Aust Warth (43),
Northwick Warth (7) and Severn Beach (1).
The best month was December (20). EARLIEST:
One was flushed from the salt marsh at
Northwick Warth/ New Passage at midday on
October 7th. LATEST: One lingered on Aust
Warth on March 5th. HIGHEST COUNT: Four were
seen on Aust Warth on December 26th.
2009
Eighty-two bird days were recorded this year
from five sites; Aust Warth (71), Northwick
Warth (5), OPS (3), Severn Beach (2) and
Marshfield (1). The best month was April
(27). EARLIEST: One was seen on Northwick
Warth on September 16th. LATEST: One was
flushed from it's roost on Northwick Warth
on April 25th. HIGHEST COUNT: Three were
noted in February and April from Aust Warth.
2008
A very healthy 215 bird days were counted
this year from five sites; Aust Warth (199),
OPS (9), Severn Beach (4), Marshfield (2)
and Northwick Warth (1). The best month was
December (76). EARLIEST: One was flushed
mid-afternoon from Down Track, Marshfield on
September 28th. LATEST: At least one was
showing well at Aust Warth on June 14th.
HIGHEST COUNT: At least five were seen at
Aust Warth on December 7th.
2007
127 bird days were logged this year from
five sites; Aust Warth (120), Northwick
Warth (3), Marshfield (2) and one each from
Severn Beach and OPS. The best month was
December (65). EARLIEST: One was found on
Northwick Warth on September 13th. LATEST:
One was reported from Aust Warth on February
17th. HIGHEST COUNT: Five were seen from
Aust Warth on December 9th.
2006
Forty-three bird days were recorded this
year from four sites; Aust Warth (37),
Severn Beach (4) and one each from Northwick
Warth and Yate Common. The best month was
October (12). EARLIEST: One was noted in
early October from Aust Warth. LATEST: One
was seen at Aust Warth on May 9th. HIGHEST
COUNT: Two birds were noted in November and
December at Aust Warth.
2005
Just fourteen bird days were logged this
year from five locations; Aust Warth (9),
Marshfield (2) with single days logged from
Northwick Warth, Severn Beach and OPS. The
best months were November and December with
four each. EARLIEST: One was reported from
Northwick Warth on 30th. LATEST: One was
noted at Oldbury Power Station on March 3rd.
HIGHEST COUNT: Two birds were noted in
January, November and December at Marshfield
and Aust Warth.
2004
A poor count of nine bird days were logged
this year from four sites: Aust Warth (5),
Northwick Warth (2) with single sightings
from Severn Beach and Leap Valley, Downend.
The best month was October (4). EARLIEST:
One was seen high over Leap Valley, Downend
on October 10th. LATEST: One was seen at
Aust Warth on January 25th. HIGHEST COUNT:
All single bird observations.
2003
Eighteen bird days were counted this year
from four sites; Aust Warth (14), Severn
Beach (2) with singles from Northwick Warth
and OPS. The best month was May (14).
EARLIEST: A single bird was seen at Severn
Beach on October 16th. LATEST: Three were
present at Aust Warth on May 17th. HIGHEST
COUNT: Three were present at Aust Warth on
May 17th.

At least two birds were seen in the Orchard
Pools area, Severn Beach between February
15th and 24th.

Recorded in the first winter period from the
Severn Beach area between January 1st and
May 5th with up to six birds present; In the
second winter period reports of up to two
birds from October 20th through to December
28th.

One was seen at Oldbury Power Station
sometime in May; One was present at
Northwick Warth on October 1st and 3rd; One
was seen at Oldbury Power Station sometime
in November; A single bird was located at
Severn Beach on December 27th.

There were 'many' records of single birds
from Oldbury Power Station between February
and May 5th with two present on April 28th;
One was seen at Severn Beach on October 6th;
One 'asio spp'. was noted hunting over
Hawthorn scrub at Severn Beach on November
21st.

Seven birds roosted on Lagoon I at Oldbury
Power Station sometime in November.

ground alongside ASDA superstore at Longwell
