One briefly early morning on Yate Common on 'the road to nowhere' 100 metres from the main wood on May 9th.

 

2020

A male in full song at ST: 700 818 on Yate Common, Yate at 18:15 on April 16th.

 

2019

A male singing at Orchard Pools, Severn Beach from April 19th until at least May 25th.

 

2018

A male singing at the south-east end of Kingsgate Park, Yate early morning on May 21st.

 

2015

A male heard briefly by several observers in the garden of The Glen, New Passage on April 6th - 8th.

 

2014

APRIL: A male singing at Horwood Farm, Wickwar on the 16th; A male in full song in the early hours of the 16th around the DHL/ Knowhow warehouse buildings, Western Approaches Estate, Severn Beach and until at least May 5th. MAY: A female at Horwood Farm, Wickwar on the 12th.

 

2013

APRIL: One from the Hanging Hill/ Beach Wood area, Bitton and another from Horwood Farm, Wickwar on the 18th; At least two singing males at Lower Woods, Wickwar on the 19th - 20th; An male from Horwood Farm, Wickwar on the 23rd. MAY: A female at Horwood Farm, Wickwar on the 6th; Three on the 10th and 31st in Lower Woods, Wickwar; A male singing on Frith Lane, Wickwar on the 22nd.

 

2012

Lower Woods, Inglestone Common, Wickwar; Two in song with one in flight on May 5th at the west end of the woods where the main stream exits the wooded area; Up to four in song on May 12th; Several singing and showing on May 27th. One from Chipping Sodbury Common on May 27th. As part of British Trust for Ornithology Nest Records Scheme and Nightingale Survey 2012; an active Nightingale nest with 4 eggs was discovered (May 19th) at Lower Woods plus two further pairs, and an unpaired singing male.

 

2011

Lower Woods, Inglestone Common, Wickwar; Two heard on April 18th; At least four heard on May 1st; Several males heard on Inglestone Common on May 17th.

 

2010

A male heard in the morning on April 22nd in the hedge near the 'flash' on Northwick Warth; At least one heard on Inglestone Common on May 8th; One heard at Lower Woods near Horton Farm on June 16th.

 

2009

One male at Horwood Farm in Lower Woods, Inglestone Common on May 5th, 21st and June 14th; Two males heard on Inglestone Common on May 8th; Two or three males heard at 20:45 at Lower Woods, Inglestone Common on May 12th.

 

2008

One at Lower Woods, Inglestone Common on May 7th and during the breeding season two pairs at Horwood Farm, Lower Woods, Inglestone Common, one of which fledged three young. Three other singing males, two on Inglestone Common and one at the southern part of Lower Woods could have related to the same birds.

 

2007

Two at Horwood Farm, Lower Woods, Inglestone Common on April 17th; One at Severn Beach on April 20th; An estimated five pairs present at Horwood Farm on May 9th; One at Webb's Heath, Warmley on May 13th.

 

2006

Three heard on Inglestone Common on May 16th; One heard from a hedgerow near Tormarton on May 21st; Five pairs recorded during the breeding season at Lower Woods, Inglestone Common.

 

2005

One at Bishop's Hill Farm near Yate on April 21st; A breading season survey of Inglestone Common and Horwood Farm revealed eleven singing males; One at Monk's Pool, Winterbourne on June 10th.

 

2004

One heard at Horwood Farm, Wetmoor, Inglestone Common on April 24th with a maximum of three singing males there on May 11th.

 

2003

One heard at Horwood Farm on April 23rd continued singing until the end of May; One at Duckhole near Thornbury on April 24th.

 

2002

A male heard in gardens at Aust Cliff on April 8th; Three singing males near Inglestone on May 11th where one nest fledged successfully; One heard at Horwood Farm near Wickwar on June 3rd.

 

2001

One from Coalpit Heath at ST: 678 803 on May 8th; Six singing males from Horwood Farm near Wickwar on May 9th .

 

2000

A singing male from Coalpit Heath at ST: 678 803 on April 20th; Two males heard on the railway embankment at Westerleigh on April 28th where they remained until at least June 2nd; One heard in scrub close to the Old Severn Bridge on May 7th; At least three males on Inglestone Common on May 15th.

 

1999

One at Willsbridge on April 25th; Six singing males at Lower Woods, Wickwar where one nest fledged successfully; Five males heard from the railway embankment between Westerleigh and Coalpit Heath at ST: 678 803 and ST: 688 803 between May 5th and 23rd; A male from Rodway Common, Mangotsfield (no dates); One processed at Severn Beach on September 4th.

 

1998

A male heard at Westerleigh on April 25th - 31st; Three from Lower Woods, Wickwar on April 25th; One heard at Ram Hill, Coalpit Heath on April 30th; Nine at Lower Woods Reserve on May 1st; One heard from May 13th from the Cycle Track at Old Rodway Station, Mangotsfield; One from a garden at Bagstone on June 6th.

 

1997

A male at Westerleigh  heard intermittently from April 20th until May 29th; Three males at Lower Wetmoor Woods, Inglestone on April 27th with a maximum of five at the end of May. Three nest fledged successfully producing fourteen young.

1996

One on Inglestone Common on April 21st where the area counted six singing males; One from Mangotsfield sometime this year.

 

1995

Breeding season reports from Inglestone Common suggest nine singing males but just one nest fledged successfully with five young.

 

1994

Breeding season reports from Inglestone Common suggest first arrivals on April 22nd with no more than seven singing males noted.

 

1993

Thirteen males singing from Inglestone Common on May 19th; One at Alveston and another from Almondsbury sometime this year.

 

1992

Inglestone Common: Two heard on April 26th and May 16th with at least seventeen males noted.

 

1991

Inglestone Common; Six on May 6th with sixteen on May 17th; One at Shortwood on May 23rd.

 

1990

Males first noted on Inglestone Common on April 16th in Lower Woods with at least fifteen males during the breeding season; Males at Tortworth and Lower Hazel Wood, Olveston.

 

1989

Inglestone Common; Males first heard on April 16th with at least ten subsequently.

 

1988

One heard at Old Sodbury on April 25th; At least fifteen singing males at Lower Woods, Inglestone Common in the breeding season; A male at Horton Bushes, Elberton.

 

1987

Five heard on Inglestone Common in June.

 

1986

First reports from Inglestone Common on April 25th with two singing males; At least ten heard up to June 24th; Two others were also heard at Willsbridge.

One from Willsbridge on April 24th; Four on Inglestone Common on May 11th with song heard up to June 24th.

Singing males from April 17th with at least eleven present on Inglestone Common; Two were also noted at Willsbridge.

First reports from April 20th with at least twenty-one on Inglestone Common and individuals noted at Duckhole near Thornbury, Hay Wood, Midger Wood, Elberton, Horton Bushes, Ashwicke and Stoke Park.

Breeding season reports of up to nine. Sightings from Thornbury, Charfield, Kilcott, Inglestone Common and Hawksbury Common.

Up to eight males from April 23rd at Tortworth, Littleton-on-Severn, Thornbury and Inglestone Common.

Singing males from Littleton-on-Severn, Inglestone Common and Oakford.

Singing males from Inglestone Common, Frampton Cotterell, Oakford and Filton.

Singing males at Frampton Cotterell and Oakford.

 

1962

Noted as a summer visitor with no reference to numbers or location. HH Davis quotes ...'Prior to 1962 - A summer resident arriving from the first half of April. Widespread on lower ground where not uncommon in all suitable localities but scarce or absent in open hilly country.
