EARLIEST: One from Severn Beach on April 6th. LATEST: . HIGHEST COUNT: Two at coastal site on several occasions in April.

 

APRIL: One heard 'reeling' in scrub south of Severn Beach was supported by individuals on Northwick Warth, the MoD site at Abbey Wood, Filton and Hanham Hills on the 6th; One on Chipping Sodbury Common plus a further two at Oldbury Power Station on the 8th with one still present on the 9th; One heard 'reeling on Aust Wetlands, Aust on the 11th; Four: Two from Aust Wetlands, Aust plus singles at Oldbury Power Station and around Shirehill Bridge, Marshfield on the 12th; Two were heard in scrub south of Severn Beach another was heard in the Pilning WR area and yet another was both seen and heard in scrub close to Passage Road, Aust on the 13th; Two were 'reeling' at Aust Warth and a further two were placed on Aust Wetlands on the 14th; One in the Severn Beach area with a further two in the Oldbury Power Station environs on the 16th; Singles in the Severn Beach and Aust Warth areas on the 18th; One from Severn Beach on the 19th; One from Pilning WR area on the 26th. MAY: One was seen from the Severn Beach shore on the 4th. AUGUST: One was heard 'reeling' from Lagoon III, Oldbury Power Station in the morning on the 12th.

 

SEPTEMBER: One was showing very well on Lagoon III, Oldbury Power Station in the morning on the 7th.

EARLIEST: One from Warmley Forest Park on April 13th. LATEST: One processed at Severn View Services/ Aust Cliffs on August 20th. HIGHEST COUNT: One on all dates.

 

APRIL: One reported from Warmley Forest Park on the 13th; One seen briefly and heard 'reeling' on Hanham Hill, Hanham on the 16th; One noted at Severn View Services/ Aust Cliffs on the 17th; One was reported from Holmdale Road, Filton on the 20th; One was processed at Severn View Services/ Aust Cliffs Ringing Area on the 23rd; One heard 'reeling' by the Lake at Oldbury Power Station in the morning on the 24th. MAY: One was reported 'reeling' from Pilning WR, New Passage on the 4th. JULY: One heard 'reeling' throughout the day from Lagoon III at Oldbury Power Station on the 5th with the same or another at the same site on the 22nd. AUGUST: One was watched at Severn Beach on the 11th; One present on Chipping Sodbury Common early morning on the 19th; One was processed at Severn View Services/ Aust Cliffs on the 20th.

 

2022

EARLIEST: One on Aust Wetlands, Aust and one at Oldbury Power Station on April 16th. LATEST: A juvenile/ 1st winter on Chipping Sodbury Common on August 23rd. HIGHEST COUNT: Five at Oldbury Power Station April 19th.

 

APRIL: One was audible on Aust Wetlands, Aust and another on the left side of the road just south of Oldbury Power Station on the 16th; One heard intermittently in the south-east corner of Lagoon II at Oldbury Power Station on the 18th; Five at the south-west end of Lagoon III, Oldbury Power Station and one at Severn Beach on the 19th; One reeling on the south-west side of Lagoon III, Oldbury Power Station on the 21st; One reeling at Severn Beach on the 27th; One reeling opposite the entrance to The Wave, Easter Compton on the 29th. MAY: One reported from the Oldbury Power Station environs on the 1st; One audible from the Cotswold Way near Chestnut Farm Tormarton on the 2nd; One audible near Thornbury Sailing Club on the far south-west side of Oldbury Pill on the 12th; One reported from Western Distribution Pools, Severn Beach on the 19th. JULY: One was heard reeling intermittently in southern corner of Lagoon II, Oldbury Power Station in the morning on the 11th; The same or another was also heard at Oldbury Power Station on the 29th. AUGUST: A juvenile/ 1st winter was found on Chipping Sodbury Common on the 23rd.

EARLIEST: One on 40 Acres, Stoke Gifford on April 9th. LATEST: A 1st winter processed at Littleton Brick Pits on October 15th. HIGHEST COUNT: One on all dates.

 

APRIL: One was heard 'reeling' near the allotments on 40 Acres, Stoke Gifford early morning on the 9th; One was heard 'reeling' by the entrance to the Severn Way at New Passage on the 18th; One noted 'reeling' early morning at Severn Beach on the 23rd; One was reported from Overscourt Woodland, Siston on the 25th; One heard 'reeling' on Chipping Sodbury Common on the 27th. MAY: One was heard 'reeling' by The Lake, Oldbury Power Station early morning on the 22nd. JUNE: One was heard 'reeling' from middle of the reedbed at the south end of Lagoon II at Oldbury Power Station on the 4th. AUGUST: One, possibly this species, flushed from the seawall at Oldbury Power Station on the 16th; One reported from Chipping Sodbury Common on the 19th. OCTOBER: A 1st winter was processed at Littleton Brick Pits on the 15th.

 

2020

EARLIEST: One from Lagoon II at Oldbury Power Station on April 6th. LATEST: One on Chipping Sodbury Common on August 27th. HIGHEST COUNT: Two heard at Severn Beach on April 19th. Seven bird days recorded this year from five sites. Oldbury Power Station, Rockhampton, Longwell Green and Chipping Sodbury Common and Severn Beach.

 

2019

EARLIEST: One on Northwick Warth on April 17th. LATEST: One on Northwick Warth on August 24th. HIGHEST COUNT: One all dates. Six bird days were logged this year from five sites. New Passage/ Northwick Warth/ Pilning WR (2), Oldbury Power Station, Severn Beach, Severn View Services, Aust and Marshfield.

 

2018

EARLIEST: Three around Lagoon III, Oldbury Power Station on April 14th. LATEST: One at Severn Beach on August 30th. HIGHEST COUNT: Three around Lagoon III, Oldbury Power Station on April 14th. Sixteen bird days were logged this year from six sites; Oldbury Power Station, Severn Beach, New Passage. Littleton Brick Pits, Frome Valley Walkway and Three Brookes LNR. The best month was April with fourteen days.

 

2017

EARLIEST: One on Northwick Warth on April 9th. LATEST: One trapped at Littleton Brick Pits on September 16th. HIGHEST COUNT: Two 'reeling' at Oldbury Power Station on April 22nd and 25th. Sixteen bird days were logged this year from seven sites; Oldbury Power Station, Hanham, Northwick Warth/ Pilning Wetland and Littleton Brick Pits, Severn Beach, Tockington and Overscourt Woodland.

 

2016

EARLIEST: Two at Severn View Services, Aust on April 11th. LATEST: One from the grassy bank near the sluice at The Pill, New Passage on August 31st. HIGHEST COUNT: Two at Severn View Services on April 11th and two at Oldbury Power Station on April 15th. Twenty-two bird days were logged this year from eight sites; Oldbury Power Station, Northwick Warth, Severn View Services, Abbywood, Filton, Severn Beach. Littleton Warth, Chipping Sodbury Common and Lower Woods.

 

2015

Eight birds reported this year. EARLIEST: One 'reeling' from scrub near Severn Beach Railway Platform and one from brambles on the north-east side of Lagoon II, Oldbury Power Station on April 13th. LATEST: One in Elders near the ST Works at New Passage on August 8th. HIGHEST COUNT: One on all dates.

 

2014

Nine individuals from two sites. EARLIEST: One a kilometre south of Severn Beach on April 10th. LATEST: Two from Lagoon II, OPS by the main reedbed at 21:30 on July 21st. HIGHEST COUNT: Three from Lagoon II, Oldbury Power Station on April 18th.

 

2013

Thirty-one birds from six sites. EARLIEST: A male 'reeling' early morning at New Passage on April 13th. LATEST: One on Chipping Sodbury Common at 15:30 on August 28th. HIGHEST COUNT: Three around Lagoon II, Oldbury Power Station on May 4th.

 

2012

Eight birds across five sites. EARLIEST: One early morning at New Passage on April 17th. LATEST: One perhaps two 'reeling' on Chipping Sodbury Common on August 12th. HIGHEST COUNT: One perhaps two 'reeling' on Chipping Sodbury Common on August 12th.

 

2011

Forty birds this year from seven sites. EARLIEST: One on Lower Knole Farm, Almondsbury on April 9th. LATEST: One at Aust Warth on September 25th. HIGHEST COUNT: Three at Lower Knole Farm, Almondsbury on April 12th.

Thirty-six birds this year spread across twelve sites. EARLIEST: One at Severn Beach on April 2nd. LATEST: One at New Passage on August 30th. HIGHEST COUNT: Five at Lower Knole Farm, Almondsbury on April 24th.

Seventeen individuals from seven sites. EARLIEST: One on Northwick Warth on April 13th. LATEST: One processed on Northwick Warth on August 29th. HIGHEST COUNT: Six, including four juveniles, at Lower Knole Farm, Almondsbury on August 22nd.

 

2008

Fourteen birds from four sites. EARLIEST: One on Northwick Warth on April 11th. LATEST: One from Northwick Warth on September 2nd.

 

2007

APRIL: One heard 'reeling' from Lagoon II, Oldbury Power Station on the 15th; One seen at Severn Beach on the 21st - 22nd. MAY: One heard 'reeling' at Overscourt Wood, Siston from the 30th until at least June 3rd. AUGUST: One seen around 09:30 on Northfield Lane, Marshfield with another noted at Severn Beach on the 27th. SEPTEMBER: One seen around Grebe Pond, Pilning WR, New Passage on September 15th.

 

2006

APRIL: A silent individual on Northwick Warth on the 17th. MAY: One heard at Orchard Pools, Severn Beach on the 4th and one heard at Naite Farm, Oldbury in late May and June. JULY: One somewhere on 'Severnside' between the 19th - 22nd. SEPTEMBER: One at Severn Beach on the 5th.

An exceptional spring passage with individuals reported from several different localities including Inglestone Common and Severn Beach.
