JANUARY: Severn Beach; A female/ 1st winter male continued around the sea defences from the 1st - 31st. Oldbury Power Station Environs; A winter male between the car park and Lagoon II on the 18th - 20th; A female/ 1st winter on the 22nd; Two, a winter male and a female/ 1st winter by The Jetty on the 23rd, the male still present on the 24th, one seen again on the 27th and a female type on the 30th. FEBRUARY: SEVERN BEACH: A female/ 1st winter male continued around the sea defences from the 1st - 28th. OLDBURY POWER STATION: A winter male and a female/ 1st winter male present from the 6th - 28th. OTHERS: One reported from Chipping Sodbury on the 4th. MARCH: SEVERN BEACH: A 1st winter male continued around the sea defences from the 1st - 16th. OLDBURY POWER STATION: A winter male and a female/ 1st winter male noted from the 1st - 5th and 16th; A female/ 1st winter around The Jetty on the 13th.

 

2nd winter period:

NOVEMBER: A female was had on the perimeter fence between the Jetty and the Waterworks at Oldbury Power Station on the 14th; A vocal and mobile male was seen between the Waterworks and Lagoon II at Oldbury Power Station on the 16th and 17th. DECEMBER: A female on the south-west side of the most south-westerly building at Oldbury Power Station on the 1st.

2022

LATEST: A female on the compound fence at Oldbury Power Station on April 16th. EARLIEST: A female/ 1st winter was seen at Oldbury Power Station in the morning on October 9th. HIGHEST COUNT: Three, a male and two female/ 1st winter at OPS in January.

 

JANUARY: Up to three, a male and two female/ 1st winters' at Oldbury Power Station from the 1st - 28th at least. FEBRUARY: Oldbury Power Station: A male was seen at the waterworks on the 12th; A male and female along the security fences on the north-east side on the 23rd; A male still present on the 28th. MARCH: A male still present at Oldbury Power Station on the 6th and female type until at least the 8th; A male was seen at Rodleys Farm, Wick on the 23rd. APRIL: A female was seen on the compound fence at Oldbury Power Station on the 16th. OCTOBER: A female/ 1st winter was seen at Oldbury Power Station in the morning on the 9th; A female/ 1st winter was seen on buildings at the Rolls-Royce site at Little Stoke/ Patchway from the 31st until at least November 4th. NOVEMBER: OLDBURY POWER STATION: A female type was seen on the roof on the south-west side of the towers on the 4th; Up to three, an adult male and two female/ 1st winters in and around the site environs from the 17th - 28th. SEVERN BEACH: A female/ 1st winter from Riverside Park/ Shaft Beach from the 27th - 30th. DECEMBER: The female/ 1st winter continued on the Severn Beach waterfront from the 1st - 31st; A winter male was seen near Lagoon II at Oldbury Power Station on the 12th; A female/ 1st winter was found in a private garden in Thornbury on the 14th.

 

2021

Up to six, two males and four female/ 1st winters, were noted through the year at OPS, Chipping Sodbury Common and Marshfield. LATEST: A female/ 1st winter on Chipping Sodbury Common on April 11th. EARLIEST: An adult male at Oldbury Power Station from November 19th. HIGHEST COUNT: Two, a male and female/ 1st winter at OPS on January 6th and December 22nd - 27th.

2020

Sixty-six bird days were logged this year from three sites (with up to five in the first winter period and up to four in the second). Oldbury Power Station (64), Thornbury (10) and New Passage (1). The best months were January and November (12) and December (11). LATEST: A female was seen briefly on rocks at New Passage on May 7th. EARLIEST: A winter male was noted at Oldbury Power Station late afternoon on November 8th. HIGHEST COUNT: Four, a male and three female/ 1st winters at OPS on November 25th.

2019

Sixty-one bird days were logged this year from four sites. Oldbury Power Station (58), Falfield, Severn Beach and Patchway (1). The best month was November (24) followed by January (16) and December (14). LATEST: One from Old Shaft Beach, Severn Beach on March 29th. EARLIEST: A female/ 1st winter on The Jetty at Oldbury Power Station on November 8th. HIGHEST COUNT: Four at OPS; A female/ 1st winter, a male/ 1st winter and two males on November 29th.

2018

Thirty-one bird days logged this year from two sites. Oldbury Power Station (27) and Severn Beach/ New Passage/ Northwick Warth (4). Best months were October and November (10). LATEST: A 1st winter male seen on the seawall near The Jetty, Oldbury Power Station on March 19th. EARLIEST: A winter male at Oldbury Power Station on November 7th. HIGHEST COUNT: Two a winter male and a female/ 1st winter at Oldbury Power Station on December 24th.

2017

Seventeen bird days were logged this year from three sites: Oldbury Power Station (14), Severn Beach (2) and New Passage/ Northwick Warth/ Pilning Wetland area (1). Best month was November (5). LATEST: A female on April 6th at Oldbury Power Station. EARLIEST: A 1st winter/ female was seen around the Jetty at Oldbury Power Station on November 26th. HIGHEST COUNT: Two adult winter males on the seawall at Oldbury Power Station on January 25th.

2016

Thirty-five bird days were recorded this year from just two sites: Oldbury Power Station (34) and Pilning Wetland (1) Best months were November and December with twelve a piece. EARLIEST: A female/ 1st winter was found around 13:15 on October 25th frequenting the area around the Wardens building and fences on Pilning Wetland. LATEST: One at Oldbury Power Station on March 13th. HIGHEST COUNT: Two were present at Oldbury Power Station on February 9th, November 20th - 21st and 30th, December 7th and 17th.

2015

Twenty-three bird days were logged this year with the most (19) seen at Oldbury Power Station. EARLIEST: A female/ 1st winter was seen by the wardens building on Pilning Wetland around 09:30 on October 31st. LATEST: A female/ 1st winter was seen on Littleton Warth on March 20th. HIGHEST COUNT: Two at Oldbury Power Station in both November and December.

2014

EARLIEST: A female/ 1st winter was present in the gardens at Park View, Kingswood, Bristol on November 2nd. LATEST: One was seen on rooftops at Riverside Park, Severn Beach ate afternoon on February 6th. HIGHEST COUNT: Two female/ 1st winter birds were present at Oldbury Power Station on November 29th.

2013

EARLIEST: One was seen just south-west of The Jetty at Oldbury Power Station on October 15th. LATEST: One was seen on Littleton Warth near Littleton STW on April 11th.

EARLIEST: A female/ 1st winter was present at Cribbs Causeway near Tile Flair on July 27th. LATEST: A female was seen around Grebe Pond, Pilning Wetland on May 4th.

EARLIEST: One was seen at New Passage on November 7th. LATEST: A female/ 1st winter was noted at Severn Beach on February 7th.

EARLIEST: A female/ immature was noted on the sea wall at New Passage on November 19th. LATEST: A 1st summer male was present at Oldbury Power Station on May 2nd.

EARLIEST: One was seen in a garden at Alveston on October 20th. LATEST: A female/ 1st winter was noted at Aust Warth at 14:00 on March 4th.

2008

APRIL: A female/ 1st winter was noted around the water works at Oldbury Power Station on the 11th; A male was present on farm buildings at Sands Farm, Dyrham on the 12th; A male was seen by the water works at Oldbury Power Station on the 17th. JUNE: A summer male was heard singing from Culverslade Chicken Farm buildings in the evening at around 20:30 from the Tormarton Road, Marshfield on the 1st. NOVEMBER: An immature male was seen at Oldbury Power Station Water Works late afternoon on the 16th and was still present on the 21st - 22nd; A female was seen on the foreshore at Oldbury Power Station on the 29th. DECEMBER: One was seen on the jetty at Oldbury Power Station on the 9th.

2007

OCTOBER: A female/ 1st winter was seen around the Water Works and Jetty at Oldbury Power Station at around 11:00 on the 23rd. NOVEMBER: A male was seen at Severn View Services on the 'Moto' building around 15:30 on the 12th.

2006

JULY: A female/ 1st winter was seen at Oldbury Power Station on the 17th and 20th. DECEMBER: A male was seen at Oldbury Power Station on the 10th.

2004

A 1st winter male was reported at Severn Beach throughout January and February with the same or another present at Severn Beach in March which was heard until April 4th.

2003

MARCH: A female/ 1st winter was noted at Severn Beach on the 25th. NOVEMBER: A 1st winter male was seen at Aust on the 6th; A 1st winter male and a female were present at New Passage on the 16th and 20th; A female/ 1st winter was seen at Severn Beach on the 23rd, 26th and 27th. DECEMBER: A female/ 1st winter was seen at New Passage from the 11th - 30th; A female/immature was seen at Severn Beach from the 4th - 31st.

2002

JANUARY: A female/ 1st winter was seen at Little Stoke on January 2nd. OCTOBER: An immature male was seen at New Passage from the 19th - 22nd; A female/ 1st winter was seen at New Passage on 21st - 22nd. NOVEMBER: A female/ 1st winter was seen at Severn Beach on the 4th. DECEMBER: A female/ 1st winter was seen at the ICI Chemical Works on Severnside on the 3rd.

2001

JANUARY: A male and female were seen regularly throughout the month at Oldbury Power Station with a second female was present on the 2nd; A 1st winter male and a female were present at Severn Beach throughout January. FEBRUARY: A 1st winter male was present at Severn Beach throughout the month. MARCH: A male was heard in song at Severn Beach on the 1st - 2nd, 14th and 26th; A female was at Severn Beach from the 26th - 28th. APRIL: Two females were seen at Severn Beach on the 3rd.

2000

FEBRUARY: A female was seen at New Passage on the 26th. NOVEMBER: A male was seen at Severn Beach on the 30th. DECEMBER: A male was seen at Severn Beach on the 1st; Two females were seen at Oldbury Power Station on the 14th with one present until the 29th.

1999

A 1st summer male was heard in song at Oldbury Power Station on May 7th.

1998

NOVEMBER: Single birds were reported from Aust, Tytherington and Abbywood, Filton. DECEMBER: One was reported from Severn Beach on the 6th - 7th.

1997

JANUARY: A male was seen at Oldbury Power Station on the 1st. FEBRUARY: A male was present at Severn Beach throughout January and February. OCTOBER: Two were noted at New Passage on the 25th. NOVEMBER: A male was reported near Oldbury on the 30th.

JANUARY: One was reported throughout the month at Oldbury Power Station. FEBRUARY: One was reported throughout the month at Oldbury Power Station. MARCH: One was seen at Aust and Littleton Warth on the 24th. APRIL: One was seen at Marshfield on the 5th. NOVEMBER: A female was noted at Latteridge on the 8th. DECEMBER: One was reported from Frenchay on the 27th.

A female seen carrying food was reported from Oldbury Power Station on May 22nd but was not seen subsequently; One was seen at New Passage on November 6th; One was noted at Oldbury Power Station on December 16th.

One or two were noted at Littleton and Aust sometime in March; Two were seen at New Passage on October 19th; One was seen in a garden at Bradley Stoke on October 30th; One was reported from Alveston from December 11th - 25th; One was present at Filton on December 16th.

One was reported from Aust on November 18th; Individuals were also noted at Oldbury Power Station, Littleton and Hallen but no dates are available.

A female was seen at Severn Beach on December 13th and 15th.

One was noted at Frenchay sometime up to either April 10th or from October 26th onwards.
